There are many different types of meditation. They are known by different names depending on the culture that was living at the time that the practice began. At this point, we can say that they have a common core in their goal. This core is surrendering ourselves to the present moment.
There are three popular types of meditation: pranayama, meditation, and mindfulness meditation. All three practices focus on the same basic techniques. Let’s discuss each one and discuss how they work.
Pranayama is the Sanskrit word for breath. It is the practice of exhalation and inhalation, breathing exercises. The first aspect of meditation is the effort to bring awareness to what we are doing. We have an idea of what we are trying to accomplish, or what we want to happen, or what we expect to happen. Meditation allows us to just be aware and not be focused on a thought or intention. Our thoughts may appear and distract us, but we are still aware and calm.
The second aspect of meditation is mindfulness meditation. This is an awareness that is experiencing the present moment as it is unfolding. At the end of the day, we should be able to sit back and look at what is happening with clear and direct awareness.
When we are practicing pranayama and mindfulness meditation, we are not trying to control our mind, but instead, we are trying to make sure that we are in a position where we are able to have a conscious experience of our mind and body. This is actually the foundation of all meditation.
Meditation is more than just giving up on our troubles and our worries. It is about surrendering ourselves to the present moment. Being able to reach out and feel the presence of the universe around us is what meditation is all about. The way that we put our attention to these experiences is part of meditation.
Meditation may be difficult and may take some time. However, the benefits far outweigh the difficulty of doing it.

Meditation is not about trying to push our mind away from reality, but rather, it is about realizing the fact that our mind is actually too busy taking care of itself. We need to allow ourselves to do something that we normally wouldn’t.
